Children, Young People & Families Theme

Every child deserves a safe and happy start in life that gives them the best possible chance of developing into a mature, well-rounded adult and reaching their full potential.  However, there are children and young people in Kent today who face difficult circumstances which can mean they are at risk of missing out on the kinds of activities and support other children take for granted in their early years.

Under this theme, Kent Community Foundation is looking to fund local projects that are making a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Kent and Medway.

For example, we would like hear from projects that:

Provide opportunities for young people to participate in enriching activities they might otherwise be excluded from.

Encourage early intervention work with vulnerable children and families.

Work with at-risk children and young people to prevent problems developing at a later stage, such as offending behaviour or teenage pregnancy.

Support disadvantaged young people to raise their aspirations and achievement.

Help disadvantaged young people on a pathway into further education, training or employment.

We will be looking for clear evidence of how the young people supported by the project are disadvantaged which might include: living in poverty or deprivation, abuse or neglect, disability, young carers, children in care, bereavement, mental health issues, disability, low aspiration or poor achievement etc.

We are particularly interested in projects that are volunteer-led or make good use of volunteers to support their work, and initiatives that are rooted within the local community and led by local people responding to local need.

Applications for general running costs/core funding will be considered for smaller organisations; we are unlikely to fund general running costs for organisations with an average annual income of more £250,000.

Salary costs can be requested if part of a specific project.

Applications for minibuses are unlikely to be funded.

Grants up to £5,000 (up to £7,500 considered in exceptional circumstances)
